YES! Im excited because I was reading this article in the NYtimes Magazine about fellow doodler, David Shrigley and I love this guy and his doodles. He is the shit! They are funny, random, and such breath of fresh air. Its hard not to appreciate something done so honestly and carelessly as the drawings he does. They are like flash cards of all those curious thoughts that happen in your mind, well for some of us at least. See more of his stuff at his website. Plus he also has a big book of drawings.

Martin Klimas, a photographer, did this radical series in where he photographed hues of paint, as if they were bounced into the air from a trampoline.Every picture is captured by using the frequencies created from different types of music being played on speakers underneath the paint. Amazing that something this beautiful happens in split second, invisible to the eye.

Van Gogh's life on film

I was browsing my Netflix instant queue and I watched this film documentary about Van Gogh's life called,

Brush with Genius. The entire film is narrated by him, as if he himself was alive and directing the film.

It was one of the best artist documentaries that I've seen in a while. It was filmed from his perspective and showed the locations of where he painted all those colorful landscapes and vistas. Its quite impressive to see how eerily exact his paintings are to real life even though all of Van Gogh's works have an air of the surreal. But they are very real. I highly recommend to watch it. It will make you appreciate this art genius even more than before.

Beautiful Paintings: Kent Williams

Kent Williams is a motherfucking artist god.

Kent Williams has the golden touch that transforms paint into mesmerizing beauty on canvas. He can draw exceptionally and the contour lines of the his figures remind me of Egon Schiele's sketches. Your eye can follow the lines like a thread from beginning to end. He can also paint light and shadow using beautiful colors that make you want to stare his works of art and dissect every little part. Its a feast for your eyes. I've never had a chance to see his works up close in person but they have that textural painterly quality that I also admire. He illustrated a graphic novel version of one of my favorite movies, The Fountain, written and directed by Darren Aronofsky. Watch it. Its way underrated.

Certain types of vegetables and fruit are more pleasing to admire than others. This beautiful Romanesco cauliflower, I got at the market, is the quintessential example of the Fibonacci sequence. The pattern in nature from which everything constructs its form and structure. Awesome to look at. Good to Eat.

ENTER THE VOID: Film Masterpiece

I know this has been out for a while now but I finally took it from my instant cue on Netflix and saw it. Basically, Ive never seen a film quite as intense and magnificent as this before. It is so surreal and artistic but also it is thought provoking about life and death. Visually it was super trippy. I felt like I had a sober simulated LSD experience. The cinematography is so unreal I dont understand how it was shot at times. Plus the opening credit sequence is like typography porn. Do yourself a favor, go see it.

Sometimes not having money can really keep you from accomplishing something life changing. All donations small and large help and usually by donating you receive something in return. I know a few talented friends that have met their goal and been able to write and produce their one man show or even to been able to start a small company. I have some friends in Savannah, my old stomping grounds, that are trying to raise some money to start an outdoor mural program that chooses artists and lets them beautify the community's empty walls. And my old professor, Katherine Sandoz, is the first artist chosen to paint a wall. This video is actually pretty amazing. It has the Kurt Cobain touch from the get go. The religious iconography and dreamworld feel is all his idea. He wanted it feel like that scene in a Wizard of Oz when Dorothy is high and rolling around in the field of poppies. I heart the song from the opening of those 4 resonating guitar chords.

I bought a super-cool sweatshirt from this designer Alexander Campaz on my way to the Apple Store (impulse). He makes them himself from patches of fabric. I like them because the color blocks are not printed but instead sewn in, like a quilt. Mostly, I like that his clothes have an artistic quality about them. Go check it out.

Miguel Arias: Doodles

I like doodles. I like doodles that can be done with humor and ease, yet have the lines of a skilled and serious draftsmen. Miguel Arias does just that. His doodles are drawn, like the way a monkey holding a pencil with a clenched fist and brute force would make. Very hard decisive marks and motions with very personal distinct lines. Cave drawings for the modern man. But Miguel though, does more than just scribble doodles. He also makes very graphic color cutout illustrations that have that same simplicity a child would have when cutting construction paper. I like his style immensely. So why dont you check it out.

Danny Cohen is a friend of mine. I met him while working at a NYC restaurant in Chelsea. He is a comedian, to say the least. He interprets all interactions, observations and experiences he has with people in his day to day life like he was directing his own episode of Seinfeld, but instead its called Cohen. He sees the weirdness in everyone and in everything. He also makes short films, called FASTFILMS which are Charlie Chaplin-esqe but instead everyone sounds like chipmunks. I made this doodle for him, because he wanted me to draw him what hope feels like.

Lenert is a 34 year old Dutch artist who writes/directs short films that make one curiously ponder things such as procrastination, beauty, art and life . They are presented in an oddly humorous and interestingly artistic way. Even the commercial and print work he does is quite satisfying and beautiful. This film is titled "How To Explain It To My Parents". Its about 5 minutes. Watch it. Im sure everyone can relate to this experience in at least one way. OK, Lyam Sparkes is a tattoo artist. He is based out of London but does stuff in NYC sometimes too at East River Tattoo in Brooklyn. His work is by far the best stuff Ive ever seen for my own personal taste. It is like an etching on your skin. He uses lines and cross hatches. I would love to be covered in his work. He is a great artist far beyond ink work. I like his doodle style.
